Are these birds doves or pigeons?

      Actually, in most parts of the world, the pigeon and dove are the same. The birds used for release are white racing pigeons. In biblical times, the term for dove (Symbol of Love & Peace) meant pigeon. For example, Noah released a pigeon from the Ark. If one looks closely at artwork from years ago, the symbolic dove that is painted is actually a white pigeon. 

What happens to the doves when released?  

    These birds have been trained in all directions and will hurry back to their home loft. While they love to fly, they love their home and owners. They respond to the care that is given, much like your dog or cat.  

Why can't I just purchase a few doves from the pet store for release?   

      This is not a good idea! First, the pet store birds have never been released and they will be quite timid. Most likely they will merely fly a few yards and settle in a tree or roof and not give an experience that is expected. Secondly, the birds cannot fend for themselves. They would not know how to find food and water. Finally, the birds would become certain victims to moving vehicles, cats and hawks.  

Do the doves carry disease?     

      No, these birds are disease free and humans will not "catch" a disease from a dove. One has no more of a concern with doves & pigeons than from a dog or cat.

What hours and where can we release the birds?  

     The birds can be released  any time during daylight until  ½hour before sunset within 10miles of Temecula. Beyond this range, the birds must be released one hour before sunset. They cannot be released inside a building. If the weather is inclement, for example raining or very hot (over 95 deg), they would not be released. We can discuss the temperature issue based on the release point back to the bird’s loft.
